  • Missing File: VCLBDE50.BPL

An recent update of the security software MalwareBytes erroneously picks up a file that is used by many Delphi applications, including Liberty, as malware and quarantines the file. This is a critical file is critical for Liberty. The name of the file is VCLBDE50.BPL.

According to information on MalwareBytes's forums, they have corrected their issue and the file will no longer be picked up and quarantined. It is unclear whether their fix will un-quarantine the file on systems where it has already been quarantined.

In cases where Liberty will not run due to this error, the file can be manually un-quarantined through MalwareBytes. Alternatively, a new copy of this file can be downloaded and placed into the appropriate folder (C:\Windows\System32 for 32bit versions of Windows, C:\Windows\SysWOW64 for 64bit versions of Windows).

Here is a link to this file:

It does appear that there may some Windows Registry keys impacted by this. We've seen the above fixes work in every case so far, however there's a possibility that this may not be the case for everyone, depending on MalwareBytes settings. In the event that the above does not work, uninstalling and reinstalling Liberty would be the logical next step, making sure to back up the database first if this behavior is seen on a Server.
