There are two methods for canceling a layaway.

Method 1.

If you wish to refund the deposit for the initial payments made on the layaway, please perform the following.

1. Click File in POS and then Layaway Lookup.

2. Search for the layaway, select to highlight it then click OK.

3. When the layaway detail appears in POS, enter a negative amount that matches the amount you would like to refund to the customer.

For example, in the screen shown below the deposit amount was $100.00 in cash. If I am refunding the $100.00 in cash then I would type -100.00 in the black entry field and then click on the cash payment button.

The payment section would appear as shown.

4. Now click the Cash button in order to complete the sale, this is required so that you can later refund the sale entirely.

5. Once you have completed the sale, you may then refund the sale to ensure the item is placed back into inventory and made available. This action will also take the money used to complete the canceled layaway sale out of income (Total/Sales/Payments Amount) on the Sales Detail Report.

Note:  DO NOT ATTEMPT TO VOID A LAYAWAY. Be sure to use REFUND only after you have performed the steps described above.

Note: Any payment type may be used to provide the customer with a refund on their deposit or payments. This includes providing them with a Gift Card if your are running Liberty 4 Consignment version 3.6a. You would perform the same steps above, and when the Finish button is clicked, you will be prompted to enter the Gift Card number as you would when selling a Gift Card.

Method 2.

If the consignor is going to forfeit the deposit or payments made on the layaway, please perform the following:

1. In POS click File > Layaway Lookup and select to open the pending layaway.

2. Make a note of the total amount of payments made. In the example below, the payment amount equals $20.00.

3. Remove each item from the sale as shown in the last example.

4. Replace the item with a Misc. Fee and when prompted enter the amount that equals the amount of all payments or deposits received. In the example above the deposit amount that will be forfeited is $20.00.
