Liberty Point of Sale offers a feature entitled Set Posting Date. This is available in POS when you click Setup > Set Posting Date...

This feature is intended for the following:

It allows a store owner/employee to "nudge" items into or out of a Markdown or Expiration period (i.e. maybe you WANT an item to Expire so the store gets 100% or you DON'T want an item to Markdown).

Utilizing this feature comes with a certain amount of responsibility. It's best to understand the results of utilizing this feature before attempting to use it. This is best explained by example/demonstration.

- Item sold on 7/21 - actual CALENDAR date
- POS changed to 7/25 for its Posting Date

The results will be as follows:

- On the client's Transactions tab, the transaction will reflect a date of 7/25...

- On the client's Inventory screen, the Sale Date and Disposition Date will also reflect 7/25...

- When one runs a Sales Detail report for "Today" (in our example, 7/21)...

<img src="http://resaleworld.com/videos/dean/2009-07-21_1101.png"/>

The sale will show 7/25, but the tax will appear on the ACTUAL DATE IT WAS COLLECTED...

Keep in mind the purpose of the Set Posting Date feature - it is designed to allow a store to "fudge" a sale, so it falls into or out of an Expire/Markdown period. It is NOT A TRUE CHANGE of the calendar date. This is important to keep in mind! Time is time and we can't go back or forward in time (yet). Liberty is inventory control software and as software, it is designed to help a store maintain control over inventory (and the sales associated with said items). Thus, a sale, specifically, the taxes for a sale brought in, are bound to the calendar date on which they transpired.

To recap:

Changing the Posting Date is not an absolute date change!
