Category Base Branch in Category Editor

Question: What is the Category Base Branch in Category Editor?

Explanation:There are 3 different category structures. You have 3, 2, or 1 level structures. I have placed and example below.

Level 1 (Womens Apparel)
Level 2 (Pants)
Level 3 (Capri pants)
Level 3 (Jeans)
Level 2 (Tops)
Level 3 (Blouse)
Level 3 (Turtle Necks)

If I chose a 1 Level structure I could choose [Pants-Womens Apparel] as my Base Category Branch.
If I chose a 2 Level structure I could choose [Womens Apparel] as my Base Category Branch.
There is no Base Category when selecting a Level 3 structure.

Now, how one should read this is, If you select a 1 Level Structure and select Pants-Womens Apparel as the Base Category the following will now appear as the category list.

Level 3 (Capri Pants)
Level 3 (Jeans)

Level 1 and 2 are removed from the list entirely because you have chosen a 1 Level only structure. By selecting a Base Category of Pants-Womens Apparel, you are specifying that you only want
the sub-categories that appear under Pants-Womens Apparel to be available.

Should I decide to now change gears and switch to a 2 Level structure and select Tops as my Base Category here is what would occur.

Level 2 (Tops)
Level 3 (Blouse)
Level 3(Turtle Necks)

Since I have select a 2 level structure the level 2 category for Tops will now appear with only it's sub-categories.

You can edit, add or delete categories after specifying any category level structure.
