I am trying to run the new L4C update and it is hanging up at the same point (upon installation of the arialn.tff file) I've tried redownloading the update as well as deleting my arialn.tff file. It hangs regardless of whether it is "copying" or "skipping" that file.
I will keep trying...support line is closed now. Anyone with ideas online now?
Thanks!

I attempted to shut off background programs and run the update again. I managed to get more accomplished, but I think some services were disabled too. I now get database errors when I run the upgraded Liberty.
I *think* I have everything back on now.
I also tried re-running update and get the same arialn.tff sticky point.
I will call in the morning (my time) to get phone support.
(lesson to all...only update when support is at work!)
Fair warning!! :)

A few updates ago I had a similar problem where my tags were not printing right because I did not have a font installed on my computer. I think the .ttf means a true type font. I would go to your control panel the to fonts and see if that font is installed. Perhaps the update is looking for that file?
Keep us posted how you make out. I would go online and put yourself in the call back que tonight or when you get in.
Good luck

I think I got it working now.
Not sure what the problem was...user error, I guess.
My suggestion still holds. Don't update unless tech support is open! :)
I'm still getting an occasional error. But I will track those so I know what to ask.

Please let us know what the occasional error is - there shouldn't be any of those. :)

Christine,
I believe it is your data that I have been looking at here. I will try to apply the update here as well and see if I have an issue with it as well. I need to rule out if it is a data issue or system issue. This should help me determine that.

Here are the weird things I have noticed so far:
(I saw the known issues tab on the download page, but this first one seems to be different than mentioned there.)
1) in POS the End of Day sales detail report consistently uses data from the day before regardless of criteria set. So running reports from POS is not ok.
2)in Reports Module I am trying to change the End of Day Payment Summary date and every time I release the drop down menu it flips from "on" to "all." There is also no way to specify a generic "today" so that I can save it as a Favorite report that is usable without daily modification of date. (can't run it as part of a batch)
3)The only custom report available in the Wizard is Sales by Customer and there are no custom criteria available to select.
4) the onscreen font in the Sales Summary (receipt) Report is unreadable...very faint. It prints ok, but seems to cut off top of letters. I am sure this has something to do with the translation of info from something formated for the receipt printer to output on the Laser printer. Livable, but weird.
Still need a way to report sell through rate for each type of item or consignor.
I do like the slow selling report. Looking for a way to get more hard numbers.
Thank you so much!

#1 is part of the known issues
http://rswpartner.com/download/mb/images/knownreportissue.jpg
#2 - If you click back on the drop down and select 'on' again, your date should be there. That is definitely not how it should work, so I have entered that into our Issue Tracker #5959
#3 - I'm not sure what you mean by custom report. What kind of custom criteria are you looking for? You can add more criteria to any report by hitting the Add More Criteria button.
#4 - That report previews fine for me. Nothing is cut off and it's not faint at all. Is it only that report that previews like that?
Are we to assume that most of the issues in this post have been resolved and there is nothing we have to do before we run the upgrade?

We are currently working on a patch for the known issues. I do not have an eta for that yet though.
As for running the update, as always, make sure antivirus and firewalls are turned off before installing.

Don, DO NOT UPDATE TO 3.5a ! The Report Writer has so many issues that the old system is much much better until they are solved. Not yet thursday sept 11th.

I wouldn't say that is true verKoopwinkel. :) Please use caution and restraint when describing "issues" or experiences. There are not "so many issues" with the new Report Writer. The specific issues are as follows:
- If you create a "Favorite" report and run it once, when you then go to use that Favorite from Liberty or POS AND you decide you actually don't want to really use the Favorite, rather, you want to over-ride the inputted criteria, the inputted criteria is not used and the "Favorited" criteria trumps it. So, as you can see, this is a delta issue. The Favorite itself works - it's only when you decide to modify the Favorite (which defeats the purpose of the Favorite.) The goal is to never have to "tweak" the criteria from a Favorited report. We provide that "mini" criteria screen to allow for on-the-fly tweaks, but if you're tweaking the criteria each and every time, then you would want to save that as a Favorite.
- When the "Custom" date criteria is selected, clicking on a calendar day "wipes" the calendar from the screen and you can no longer select it - again, this is only when using "Custom" for a date range.
- If you are using dual monitors and have the Report Writer on the second monitor, the calendar (when clicked) appears over to the far-right of the screen - 100% cosmetic.
Those are the "known issues" that have been resolved with the beta release that's out there. In regard to specific reports, the only issues are related to brand new reports, such as the Voided Sales report.
So, the "so many issues" list is a very small and finite. The Internet and Email are a dangerous place as anything can be said AND it's much easier to say things. Misplaced words are immediately assumed as writ, since that's the psychology that has come to be when "reading information." Again, please use caution and restraint when describing issues/experiences. When 99% of something is functioning and there are a handful of issues that don't impact mission critical processes (daily sales reports, payouts, clients, all existing reports, etc.), it's quite the leap to say it has so many issues.
Please feel free to mention any issues you are experiencing and we can address those issues specifically.

Hi Dean ( from Amsterdam, Holland ),
We aren't able to produce ANY reports with 3.5a except for Today and cumulative.
The reason is probably that we don't use the US notation for dates ie. month/day/year but day/month/year.
It looks like what we are seeing is indeed much worse than the minor issues customers in the United States are having.

I am trying to install Liberty 2002 since our PC crashed and I am experiencing the same problem as Sequel (Jenni) when she tried to install the new L4C. The only different mine it was hanging while copying i2of5txt.ttf. I’ve tried deleting, re-downloading the software, installed the latest Win XP maintenance, antivirus, firewall off and is still hanging at the same spot.
Anyone has any idea how to get around this problem?
Thanks,
David

It sounds as though either A) something is blocking i2of5txt.ttf (or a file thereafter) from being copied/installed or B) something is in-use, which is preventing this file from being copied/installed.
I can say this - the issue you're experiencing rarely comes up. This means, it is something very, very unique - and something specific to your computer. By no means am I trying to shun your computer though! :) It does help us narrow down the culprit though.
When you say "your PC crashed," what exactly happened? Also, what exactly happened as far as follow-up actions? I'm trying to get to, "what is the state of this computer?" I can say this - one can take any new, clean computer, install Windows XP or (ewww) Vista and Liberty + MS SQL Server will install 100% of the time. Thus, there's something about the computer in its current state, that's causing this issue.
Can you provide us with any background as to how this "PC crash" was remedied?

I m trying to install Liberty 2002 on a new PC not the one that is having a problem. The old PC is having a motherboard problem. My plan is to install Liberty on the new PC and restore the data. But I have been having problem to install Liberty 2002 on the new PC. I am contemplating to re-install Window XP on the new PC.
Thanks,

That's what I was trying to figure out - what the condition of the "new" PC is. I can say that a clean install of Windows XP SP3 allows our installer + Microsoft's installer for SQL Server, to run and install flawlessly.
I always try to weight the cost of wrestling with a system vs. reinstalling Windows - the latter taking 39 minutes. Of course one shouldn't just reinstall Windows at the drop of a hat. That being said, if Windows has been on there for 1-2 years, has been used by other people, etc. I start to lose confidence in a system. If I'm building up a system for business use, I want to make sure it's lean and mean and is going to keep my TCO down.
Also, if you're on the path to reinstalling Windows, I would consider imaging your system. If you're not familiar with it, imaging is the process of "cloning" your entire hard drive. You can save yourself a TON of time by imaging a system. Windows only takes 39 minutes to install, but then comes the driver downloads (which, if it's a Dell, is a relatively short process) and software installation. I envision one installing Windows, installing all necessary drivers, Liberty, MS SQL Server and any other "baseline" products you utilize on your computer. Make an image of that puppy and save it to an external hard drive and a DVD. Should you ever run into a system failure again, all you do is load the image (which consists of booting off a disc and pointing it to said image) and bang! you're up and running.
Keep us posted!

After the reinstall Win XP, I do not have issue with the install anymore. But we do have one...when making a sale on the POS, it says invalid column name "web quantity" and when I click on an item in the account list. It says: invalid object name "auction_user".
Is this a set up error?
Thanks.

This indicates that the version of the software is newer than the database you have restored. Just run the update and it will fix it.
What's happened is, you installed the latest version of Liberty. You then restored a database that is slightly older. The software is now trying to "look" for things in the database that aren't there. When it attempts to make changes to the tables/columns it expects to see, and they aren't there, errors ensue.
The "big 3" when installing Liberty on a new/different PC are:
1. Install Liberty
2. Restore your database
3. Install the latest update (this updates both the software AND the database)
Let us know if this helps!
