In v3.1a of Liberty4, we added support for Pole Display devices. Liberty communicates with these devices via "COM" ports. This happens over USB, but the communication still happens via COM. Enough of the tech-talk though!
Once you configure Liberty POS to use a Pole Display, it is designed to check and see if the Pole Display is still connected each time you launch POS. This doesn't impact the speed/performance of POS at all. However, if for some reason, your Pole Display is no longer available (the cleaning crew accidentally disconnected it), POS will let you know right when it opens. If you had a Pole Display connected and now POS cannot communicate with it, you will see the following error message...

Now, your error could say COM1, COM2, COM3, etc. - depending on which COM port your Pole Display was using. The most important part of the message is "Unable to open display port COM..." Just click "OK" to that message and POS will continue to launch.
Now, what next? Well, check and see if your Pole Display is even plugged in to your computer. It connects via USB - a small, flat rectangular connection. Your Pole Display also needs power, so make sure the power cable is plugged in as well.
There is very little to do with these Pole Displays, once installed. Chances are, if you are seeing this message, your Pole Display is just disconnected. Make sure its USB cable AND power cable are connected.
If you connect your Pole Display to a USB port other than the one it was initially installed on, Windows will probably ask you to install it again. The installation for these devices is VERY simple.
We recommend/support the Logic Controls PD-3000-UB. When this device is connected to a USB port it has never been connected to, you will see the Found New Hardware Wizard. Just insert the CD-ROM that came with your device and click "Install Automatically" - that's it!
