I have just transfered old data from LFW to the new L4 and I have set tax codes for the new inputing headings but can't get the taxes to come up right on old data. In the old system I could change the tax rate in POS. How can you set up the tax to match old data with different headings? Can you change in POS? I have two tax codes for merchandise.

The taxes should have converted straight over for you. There is no additional configuration required to get sales tax to work when converting from an older version of Liberty to a newer one.
Make sure your items in question are in fact set to the tax you would like. The easiest way to find this out is, locate one of these items on the Inventory tab of a consignor's account - double-click on the item. You will see all of the different fields (Price, Description, etc.). One of these fields should be the "Tax Code" field. Make note of which Tax Code the item is set to and then go to Tools > Tax Codes. Is the Tax Code the item is set to the one you wish to use?
L4C does not have the same ability that LFW had when it comes to POS and changing Tax Codes. Truly though, there should never be a point in time where and item uses one tax rate one day and then a different tax rate the other. Items use the same percentage with the few exceptions:
- Base Amounts - Liberty can "hold off" on applying tax unless the item is of a certain price or higher. For example, you could make it so all items under $100 are non0taxable, but as soon as you ring up a $100 or above item, tax is applied.
- Tax-free Sale - A few times a year, certain states offer tax-free days. In Liberty POS, you can A) click File > Tax Exempt, B) hit ctrl + T on your keyboard or C) double-click on an item you have just entered into POS and you can check/un-check the "Tax Exempt Item" box.
When you say "How can you set up the tax to match old data with different headings?", can you provide more details? You can have different taxes for different items and you can even have multiple taxes in one Tax Code. Some areas have a local + a government tax. So they'll have 3% and 4% totaling 7% - all within one Tax Code. These are called tax "Details". Within each Tax Code, you have at least one "Detail". You can add another "Detail" and name it anything you'd like.
Here is an example...
