Many have called asking how they can take Liberty home with them (lots of crazy people out there). There are a few things to keep in mind here. First of all, it is a good idea to install the Liberty software at home and every now and then restore your database to ensure you have good working backups. The ONLY true way to know if you have a good working backup is to restore it!
Second, when you restore a database the existing database is replaced (overwritten/deleted) with the restored one. For example, if you make a backup of your store system at lets say11:00 and then add a few new accounts, take your data home restore it the new accounts will not show up at home (they will still show up at the store) because they were not in that backup (were created after the backup). Additionally, if you then do payouts at home, make a backup then restore that backup at the store the payouts will show up but the new accounts will now be gone. Again, this is because the existing store data base (which had the new accounts) has been replaced with the restored one (which didn’t have the new accounts but had the payouts).
With this in mind here is how you can “Take Liberty Home”
Follow these instruction to “take Liberty home”:
Note: If you are going to be launching auctions you will also need to back up and restore the images as well. Images are backed up automatically but need to be manually restored.
At Store:
1) Make a backup of your store data (see this article: http://www.resaleworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1273 )
2) Bring backup home
At Home:
1) Restore store data (start > all programs > liberty > restore database)
2) Run update
3) Use Liberty
4) Make a backup of home data
5) Take backup to store
At Store:
1) Restore home database (start > all programs > liberty > restore database)
2) Run update
3) Use Liberty
Connecting to your store computer from home is another way to “take Liberty home” with you. This would usually require having internet access on the home and store computers. We would recommend hiring a network technician to configure this for you.
I hope this helps.
